Bread And Water

October month is usually one of our church’s busiest months, with student coming back to university and our anniversary celebration etc, there were many events, meetings, and fellowships. Hectic as it was, I want to grab as much opportunities as possible.

Restoration In The Midst of Busyness

October in the UK also means we are entering the colder months of the year, and truly the weather was just getting colder and wetter each day. It is also a season where people catch colds and flus as the weather changes.

In this busy season, there were little time to rest, and I started to become weary and tired mentally. On top of that, my body decided to catch a cold, so physically I am too, running out of gas. I became worried about not being able to continue running for the kingdom of God in such a crucial time.

1 Kings 19: 5-6

Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.

During my devotion, I was reminded of Elijah, the time where he was doing many miracles of God and was chased down by Jezebel who at that time was ridding whoever calls themselves God’s prophet. While having extreme physical tiredness and mental breakdowns, God saw to his needs; angels were sent to bring him food so he may be physically replenished, and later God presented Himself to him so that Elijah can be mentally and spiritually restored. All these BEFORE God ask him to go back out again.

Remembering this gave me so much peace and reminded me that the devil never had the chance too even when I’m weak as I continue to lean onto God. This church family also supported me when I was unable, filling in for me so I could consume the bread and water and rest worry-free. They made sure I know that I’m not running this race alone.

Praise God this lasted shorter than expected and I not only recovered well but was also rejuvenated by His healing power to continue running for His kingdom.
